Frequently asked questions

Need-to-knows, nice-to-knows, and "oh, good to know"s!

Do I need a signature for the Estate Information Return (EIR) before submitting?

No. Because the submission is transmitted electronically, no physical or digital signature is required from the estate representative.

For more questions about the EIR submission, please see the full list of FAQs here.

How will I know my EIR submission went through?

After you click Submit EIR, the Submission Scheduled screen confirms the filing is queued and shows a summary: the deceased's name, scheduled date and time, court file number, court location, and payment details. Once Estateably transmits the filing, the status updates to Submission Sent. The Ministry then processes the filing within 24 hours and contacts the Estate Representative(s) directly.

For more questions about the EIR submission, please see the full list of FAQs here.

How does the Opening Balance show up in my Trust reports?

If the account's added on the trust's start date, it appears as existing cash at that start date, not a receipt. If it's added later, it shows up as a receipt in that reporting period.
